Mizzenmast

MAIN DECK | AFT

00:00 / 00:24
The third and last mast from the bow of the ship is called the mizzenmast. The mizzenmast is used to load cargo into both No. 4 and No. 5 Cargo Holds.

The corresponding booms have a maximum lifting capacity of 25 tons. The mizzenmast is of a smaller capacity than those used to handle cargo at the forward holds.

LEARN MORE

Back in the days of sail, as many as seven masts were used. On a seven-masted fore-and- aft schooner, the masts were named from bow to stern: foremast, main mast, mizzenmast, jiggermast, driver mast, pusher mast, and spanker mast.

Just aft of the Mizzenmast is the last of the ship’s cargo holds, No. 5 Cargo Hatch and Hold.
