Purser's Cabin

BOAT DECK | AMIDSHIPS

00:00 / 00:52
The Purser was a key figure aboard a Liberty Ship, collaborating closely with the ship's Master to oversee financial and administrative tasks. This involved maintaining records such as the crew's work and pay register to ensure timely payments.

Additionally, the Purser was responsible for procuring supplies for the ship and managing the ship store known as the "Slop Chest" for the crew's personal purchases.

Beyond these duties, the Purser would oversee the crew's medical needs and facilitated communication by conveying messages between the Master and crew members. Managing correspondence with other ships and authorities also fell under the Purser's responsibilities.

Overall, the Purser was instrumental in ensuring the smooth operation of the ship and the well-being of the crew.
